Accessibility
This site is built to work for people who are blind or have low vision, and for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. Everything here is text-based — there is no audio or video you have to hear to get help.
If you have low vision or use a screen reader
- Use Accessibility options at the top of any page to enlarge all text or turn on a high-contrast black-and-white theme. Your choice is remembered on this device.
- A Skip to main content link appears when you press Tab, so you can jump past the header.
- Every page has one main heading, labeled landmarks, and text labels on all buttons, links, and form fields. Icons are decorative and are hidden from screen readers.
- The Utah county map can be used entirely from the keyboard, and the same counties are also available in a plain dropdown list and in the statewide directory below it.
- Results update in live regions, so screen readers announce new matches without you hunting for them. Results can also be downloaded as a PDF or emailed to yourself.
- Animations are reduced automatically when your device asks for reduced motion.
If you are deaf or hard of hearing
Many legal aid programs list a phone number as their main contact. You do not have to place a voice call:
- Dial 711 from any phone to reach Telecommunications Relay Service free of charge. A relay operator connects you to any number on this site by TTY, captioned telephone, or video relay. Utah’s program is described at relayutah.gov.
- Crisis support without a call: text 988, or chat online at 988lifeline.org/chat. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline also offers ASL videophone support through its website.
- Utah 211: text your ZIP code to 898211 or use the chat at 211utah.org for food, rent, and shelter help.
- Court hearings and clerk’s offices: Utah state courts provide ASL interpreters and other accommodations at no cost to you. Ask the clerk in advance, or see the accessibility information at utcourts.gov.
- Where a program publishes an email address or web intake form, this site shows it alongside the phone number so you can start in writing.
Standard we aim for
We target WCAG 2.1 Level AA and test the site with automated accessibility checks on every release, in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari.
